NATIVE LANDSCAPE: PROJECT MANAGEMENT/ESTIMATING

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee restoration projects with the help of an Operations Manager
  • Prepare estimates utilizing estimating software (coordinate resources, materials, subcontractors’ prices, and scheduling for new construction projects)
  • Submit bid proposals accurately and on time
  • Work with the sales team to address client and project needs, as well as participate in helping sales to reach benchmarks
  • Organize, plan, and execute various native restoration projects including shoreline/streambank restoration, tree, shrub, and plug installation, seeding, erosion control, and hardscape applications
  • Communication with clients, project architects, subcontractors, etc.
  • Work with vendors to acquire necessary materials for various restoration projects
  • Work with Supervisors/Crew Leads to address on-site planning and execution issues

Qualifications:

This role requires industry and project experience with in-depth knowledge of the native landscape industry.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Ability to read and evaluate construction plans, technical manuals, floristic quality indexes, and other literature related to the native restoration field.
  • Able to plan, organize and supervise multiple native restoration projects.
  • Driven attitude that strives to see projects completed in a safe, efficient, and quality manner.
  • Ability to be a flexible team player that can work with both sales and upper management to support company goals.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and other basic computer skills.
  • Meticulous & Detail-oriented, while able to use critical thinking skills to see the big picture.
  • Exceptional ‘people skills’, including the ability to confidently discuss and negotiate project details with clients.
  • 2-5 years of experience in native restoration, landscape construction or a field that strongly relates is recommended.
  • Experienced in Problem Solving & Project Management in a commercial application.

RESTORATION TECHNICIAN

Duties and Responsibilities:

Restoration technicians will be conducting invasive species control (mechanical and chemical) and will be required to obtain there Illinois Herbicide Applicators License. Bluestem crew members will be working at locations such as forest preserves, park districts, new developments, HOA’s, Commercial, wetland mitigation sites, sustainable design developments, etc. Technicians will work in communities such as prairies, wetlands, sedge meadows, woodlands, and naturalized basins. Other responsibilities may include wetland plant installation, tree, and shrub installation, select tree removal, and erosion control blanket installation.
Candidates should have some knowledge of local flora, a strong work ethic, function well as both team and individual work assignments and operate small power tools (tractors, RTV, skid steer a plus). Other misc. duties will be equipment care, some data entry and record keeping.

Technicians will be scheduled to work in the Chicagoland area and Southeastern Wisconsin.

Qualifications:

1) 1 to 2 years’ experience preferred in biology, botany, ecology (understanding of landscape construction applications helpful).
2) Valid Driver’s License with a good driver record (Drug testing is required if driving a company vehicle).
3) Must have the physical ability to work long hours in the outdoors in inclement conditions (rain, heat, mosquitoes, bees and wetland conditions).
